Popular GPS device maker, Garmin, is planning to launch a fitness band in partnership with Flipkart in India, dubbed as the VivoFit and it will be up for sale from August 7 and will be exclusive to the e-commerce company for now.
The Vivofit tracker can count your steps, monitor sleep heart rate, calories burnt, step goal and with an always on-display, you will be able to see all the details. Garmin also made sure that you will be able to carry it anywhere you wanted. The tracker is waterproof and is being claimed that you can wear it while swimming and in rain.
All the data on the tracker can be synced with your phone using the Garmin Connect app. It uses Bluetooth 4.0 to sync data which works automatically or you can push the button on the tracker to sync. This also means that VivifIt comes with its own Fitness Tracking solution and management. It can help you see your daily activities and reward you with badges when you unlock an achievement or meet a goal.
This is something to worry about though and its just not the problem of VivoFit but of any platform. A need of universal platform or at least opening up API will be much needed.
That said, VivoFit is priced at Rs 9,990 (~$165). This is for the black version and if you want to change to colours like green, blue, purple, you will need to spend as much as Rs 1,990 extra. Garmin Vivofit will face stiff competition from the likes of GOQii, Sony Smartband and Samsung Galaxy Fit.
