Volkswagen today showed off a sports car concept that adjusts routes based on your biometric data and includes dashboard elements that appear to just float in front of the driver, among other things.
Details about the Sport Coupé Concept GTE were revealed.
"In its basic configuration, the digital display depicts two round instruments; a power meter on the left and a speedometer on the right with a field between them for all sorts of information," Volkswagen said. "The new free-form surface makes the round instruments appear to hover in virtual space," and graphics change depending on driving mode.
The hybrid-electric coupe can go from driver-activated, all-electric E-Mode, which has a 32-mile range, to GTE Mode, which switches "to the most dynamic side of the vehicle" for a "sportier" ride.
The car includes a 10.1-inch touch screen in the front. There's also 12.3-inch touch screen in the back, which sits between the two seats and can be used to control touch screens that are embedded in the headrests of the front seats.
at the Geneva International Motor Show. Don't look for it at the local dealership; it's just an idea for now. But it provides Volkswagen fans with a glimpse into what the company wants to add to future vehicles.
"Based on the driver's biometric data, the Sport Coupé Concept GTE determines, via a smartwatch or armband for measuring the driver's vital functions, whether to select a route that includes an exciting country road or a gentle route instead," Volkswagen said.
If you have this option turned on, your car will start measuring your vitals as soon as you input a destination address. Presumably, if your heart rate is through the roof, it won't take you on a construction-clogged road that's backed up for miles.
Just make sure you pay attention. "Time and distance are secondary factors here," Volkswagen said. "In this navigation mode, which is individually tailored to the driver, the sole purpose is to experience maximum driving enjoyment."
As you're motoring to your destination, meanwhile, alerts and other car diagnostics will be displayed via 3D graphics.
