HTC has unveiled the Utopia flagship of 2015 and it is named not so surprisingly HTC One M9. It isn’t the major overhaul everyone was suspecting but a refinement with upgrades to top class specs which are a must for 2015 flagship device.
Design
Firstly the design has barely changed with almost identical design to One M8 but One M9 now possess dual anodization, scratch-resistant coating which was highly needed and sapphire glass on the camera lens to make it almost scratch and crack resistant. It adds new color apart from Gunmetal Grey, Silver and Gold now there’s a Pink and Gold variant.
Hardware
In terms of hardware HTC One M9 retains the display from One M8 which was one of finest display measuring 5-inch with 1080p FullHD resolution. There’s some fine tuning for ever more accurate color rendering. The chipset inside is Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-Core 64-bit SoC with quad core Cortex-A57 cores clocked at 2.0GHz and quad core Cortex-A53 working at 1.5GHz coupled with Adreno 430 for Graphics and 3GB of RAM.Camera
In terms of optics HTC has finally went with the flow and included 20-megapixels BSI camera on the rear with F/2.2 aperture and dual-LED dual-tone flash just like the one on One M8. Now you also get RAW capture support along with 4K video recording. The front camera is now Ultrapixel just like the one found on HTC One M8 rear side except for autofocus.
The camera app has inbuilt list of effects and photography options along with newly enhanced Zoe app which organises gallery and create beautiful highlights video automatically.
Connectivity
All the world class mobile connectivity options are part of One M9 including the support for 21 LTE bands with Cat 9 and Cat 6 connectivity depending on region besides support for NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4 & 5 GHz), DLNA, HDMI MHL 3.0, CIR, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack and micro-USB 2.0 (5-pin) port.
Software
HTC One M9 runs on latest Android iteration i.e Lollipop 5.0 with HTC Sense 7. It adds support for themes and user can now change look and feel of entire system be it keyboard, backgrounds, icons and colors. There’s also an inbuilt theme generator based on any particular image which might be exciting. HTC Boomsound is now even better with Dolby Sound Technology.
Blinkfeed is also vastly improved with location results and recommendation directly from Yelp. It also now comes up in Lockscreen saving you trouble of unlocking in order to access quick news feed.
Availability and Price
HTC One M9 global rollout will begin from mid-March and it will be available in India and Asia Pacific along with USA and major European markets by the end of March. It is to be priced about $699 in USA and about Rs 50,000 in India.
